The Mary Fischer Haynes Inaugural 104K Ride for The Cure

What started out as a small bicycle ride amongst a couple of fire fighters and their families has turned into something unexpected and all for a good cause.
Mary Fischer Haynes, who this ride is named after, died on March 11, 2007 from breast cancer at the age of 57. She was a 1967 graduate of Jenkins High School, and later attended Armstrong Atlantic State University. The ride is being hosted by the 165th Airlift Wing Fire Department Cycling Team out of the Savannah-Hilton Head International Airport. Price: $50. For more information call Ray Sikes at 912-657-4397.

Savannah Derby Devils 2009 Season

The Savannah Derby Devils women's flat-track roller derby league returns for their third competitive season. Each "bout" involves more than an hour of competitive play between the local rollergirls and other leagues from around the region. Events include raffles, games, prizes, refreshments, roller derby merchandise and a free moonbounce for kids. Alcohol is not permitted in the facility but you may bring your own for tailgating in the parking lot before the bout starts (no glass, please). Doors open at 6 p.m. Bout starts at 7 p.m. Some bleacher seating is available. No chairs allowed on the rink surface. Must be age 18 or older to sit in "suicide seating" near the rink.
